Do you knit? Crochet? Sew?
Would you like to use this skill to help welcome homeless veterans to their new homes?
Welcome Home... is a project to do just that, and we are inviting you to join us.
Some of our valued veterans are homeless...for a variety of reasons. They can experience feelings of depression and confusion. They may feel scared, or helpless. Their entire world has changed and they don't know what to do. Many veterans have their own resources (family, friends, professionals) to turn to in this time of need. But many do not.
Staff at a variety of crisis centers are there to listen to these men and women, to share their concerns, and to offer real hope for their future. Some work to provide shelter...and some work to provide a new home.
The city of Tucson has committed to finding and providing a new home for each and every homeless veteran within the city. This is no small project...as Tucson apparently has 1600 homeless veterans. To date (October 2015), they have managed to place all but 442 of the homeless veterans living here! My desire is to provide a new afghan or quilt to each of these veterans as they receive their new home...basically, to "welcome them home." I also hope to provide a new afghan or quilt to each veteran who has already been placed in new housing here. Obviously, I can't do this without help...a lot of help.

Welcome home is a network of volunteers who make and distribute handmade afghans and quilts for a homeless veteran's early needs.
